Thanks for visiting our website!
Are you familiar with the Literacy ‘n’ Poverty Project (aka LnP)? LnP is a social initiative that believes education is the pathway out of poverty.
Through advocacy, research and service we seek to address multiple aspects of literacy – writing, health, reading, financial – to equip and empower the poor and low-income adults to lift up out of poverty. We shall examine the effects adult education has on poverty and income and provide innovative solutions that positively impact adults and the communities in which they live, work and play around the world.
We have a vision of expanding our reach and opening sites around the world and will do so by building a network of partners and collaborators: the professionals, businesses, and community benefit (nonprofit) organizations who are passionate about our work, our mission and helping the adults obtain a better education to rise up out of poverty.
We will serve not only the illiterate (which a majority are living in poverty and considered the “bottom of the pyramid”) but also with adults that may have a high school diploma and are living just above the poverty threshold, who are struggling to provide a better life for themselves and their families.
You can read more about how it all started here.
March 2010 Update
The Literacy 'n' Poverty project has been growing and reshaping since conception in the dorm room of its founder and chief visionary Chanelle Carver. We graciously thank all the women and men that have volunteered with us, sharing your enthusiasm, skills and support for our mission. You believed from day one! Thanks.
The project is currently transitioning to a more formal structure which will give us more time and resources to get things done and serve more people. Since we are still young and flexible we can make better use of our time and resources by building a solid foundation for what we envision as an international social enterprise helping adults around the world.
While we work on fixing up our site, you can connect with us directly on Twitter. We're tweeting almost everyday and would love to connect with you. Maybe you'll let us pick your brain or discuss ways we can collaborate to help more adult learners get the skills and knowledge they will need to succeed in today's technologically advanced, information and skill driven society.
